Tucked In

Fluffy pillows caress cheeks,
Soft, warm blankets envelope divots,
Frigid air tickles exposed skin,
Eyelids hang heavy, morning light creeps in,
Blurry lines, then certain objects.
I do not want to get up.

A cocoon, safe and familiar –
Begins to shake, begins to stir.
Spiny protrusions double then crack,
Searing pain shoots down its back,
Wings flutter and fan, colour shoots,
Raw, tender, ready to begin.

Forced out of fantastic slumbers,
Cast into a world of blunders,
Air ceases to pulsate, its body crouched,
Fibrillating tensions through skin,
Compounded gazes, stinging has faded,
Life has begun.
